Sony FX3a vs. Sony FX3 – which one is the best camera for you?

Sony FX3A or Sony FX3 – which one is the best camera for you? It’s better for you, we know that Sony has done a kind of a minor refresh in the ultra-popular Sony FX3 — a compact full-frame cinema camera for solo cinematographers. Now, in this article, we are just exploring this update.

Sony FX3A – what changed inside this camera?

1.Enhanced LCD resolution:
The new FX3A features a 2.35 million-dot, 3-inch LCD screen on the rear side of the camera, which is a kind of good jump from the 1.4 million-dot display. It is now more sharp and has better brightness for outdoor use.

2.Removed features:
Sony dropped out the NFC functionality as well as the infrared remote control feature from the new generation of FX3A camera. That means now we have no quick wireless pairing via NFC, although we do have the usual method of connectivity via Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, which may frustrate some users with legacy workflows.

Take a look at the quick comparison table between the two that shows the major differences between the FX3A and the FX3.

Sony FX3a vs Sony FX3: Side-by-Side Comparison

Feature Sony FX3 Sony FX3a
LCD Resolution 1,440,000 dots 2,359,296 dots
NFC Functionality Yes No
Infrared Remote Yes No
Sensor 12.1MP Full-Frame Exmor R CMOS 12.1MP Full-Frame Exmor R CMOS
Video 4K 120fps, 10-bit 4:2:2, 16-bit RAW 4K 120fps, 10-bit 4:2:2, 16-bit RAW
Dynamic Range 15+ stops 15+ stops
ISO Range 80-409,600 (expanded) 80-409,600 (expanded)
Price (Approx.) ~$3,898 (discontinued, discounted) ~$3,898 (B&H listing)

Why did Sony release the FX3A?
See, there was no option — the supplier’s stock of the existing LCD display screen has been discontinued by the display makers. So, they had to introduce the new display. But that’s really surprising — why did they drop the NFC and the infrared controller from the camera? Maybe to cut down the production line cost — who knows!

Should you buy the FX3A camera?
If you already own a Sony FX3 camera, then there is no need to invest in the FX3A. It doesn’t arrive with any significant upgrade over the FX3, and even the price is exactly the same. And believe me, more or less, you are losing the infrared and NFC connectivity, so better to stick with your FX3 camera.

For new buyers, let’s discuss — should you buy FX3?
The Sony FX3 is actually phasing out, since Sony does not have the old display screen anymore. And the new bodies also lose the infrared as well as the NFC port.

But you have to make a very smart choice, since there is a fact we should consider — the new model gets regular firmware support from the camera maker, and generally they care a bit less about the older ones. So, if you actually have a requirement of having a remote control or NFC connectivity, then you should go with the older model as soon as possible. Otherwise, getting the FX3A would be the best decision.

When will the Sony FX3 Mark II arrive?

Nikon Z50 II and Nikon Z6 III Are Driving Major Sales for Nikon

Nikon mirrorless cameras are stealing the spotlight in 2025 financial report, then I can’t get Z50 II and the Nikon Z6 III according to Nikon Imaging Business 5.6% increase in the revenue that will reach 295,363 million yen for the fiscal year ending March 2025, but what makes these two mirrorless cameras so popular among the Nikon users, let’s explore some facts

In the Imaging Products Business, the Group recorded a year-on-year increase in revenue due to an increase in the number of interchangeable lenses and mirrorless cameras sold, mainly Z50II APS-C size mirrorless camera, Z6III fullframe mirrorless camera, and other new products, as well as the positive effects of the yen depreciation. The Group, however, recorded a year-on-year decrease in profit due to the operating loss of RED, which was affected by the sluggish cinema industry, and the recognition of one-time costs such as impairment losses on non-current assets at Mark Roberts Motion Control Limited. As a result, this business segment recorded revenue of 295,363 million yen (up 5.6% year on year) and operating profit of 41,306 million yen (down 11.3% year on year).

Why the Nikon Z50 II and Nikon Z6 III are winning

The Nikon Z50 II is very much popular among beginner wedding photographers, hybrid shooters, and even content creators, and the Z6 II is popular among professionals. Nikon Z50 II and the Nikon Z6 III have more than just cameras, they are the actual proof of Nikon’s mirrorless momentum in 2025. Now Nikon is doubling down on the mirrorless plan and potentially leading to new lenses, accessories, and even planning higher-end models like Z9 Mark II, as well as they’re also planning to refresh the Nikon Z30 with Nikon Z30 Mark II as per the latest set of rumours.

The Nikon Z50 II is a compact powerhouse camera

Sony Major Announcement on May 21, 2025

According to the latest Sony camera announcement rumor coming from the rumor mill, Sony is preparing for its next announcement on May 21, 2025

Any previous post the human male has mentioned, the upcoming camera will have a tilting viewfinder just like we have seen in the Panasonic GX9 camera. That’s a great thing, that’s a great initiative if Sony is taking so, but mainly we would love to see some kind of changes or better to say major enhancements in the core specifications of the upcoming camera, for the upcoming Sony mirrorless camera updates.

Source SAR website

What’s Coming Next From Sony

Right now, we do not have any leaks from the rumor mill, and I don’t want to make any predictions over that, so it’s better to just have a plain sheet of Sony announced cameras in the past 3 years, and let’s just talk about their predicted scheduled update of Sony upcoming cameras 2025 and beyond

Table: Sony Mirrorless Camera Announcements and Predicted Cycle

Camera Model Format Announcement Date Predicted Next Update
Sony α7 IV Full-frame October 21, 2021 Sony A7 V in Q4 2025 (4-year cycle)
Sony α7R V Full-frame October 26, 2022 Sony A7R VI in Q4 2025 (3-year cycle)
Sony α6700 APS-C July 12, 2023 Sony A6800 in Q3 2027 (4-year cycle)
Sony α7C II Full-frame August 29, 2023 Sony A7C III in Q1 2027 (3 – 4-year cycle)
Sony α7CR Full-frame August 29, 2023 Sony A7CR II in Q3 2027 (4-year cycle)
Sony α1 II Full-frame November 19, 2024 2028 – 2029 (4-5-year cycle)
Sony A7S III* Full-frame July 2020 Sony A7S IV in Q3 2025 (5-year cycle)

Sony A7S IV Camera – highly anticipated

If Sony wants to keep everything in sequence, then the next update should be the Sony A7S IV. The Sony A7S IV is long due for an update, and it was a highly popular camera among Alpha series users. Despite that fact, Sony has delayed the update of the A7S series for no reason, so if they move on their own schedule pattern of announcement, as we have sai,d the Sony A7S IV should be next.

Sony A7R VI with modest update?

Sony A7RV was a massive update from A7R IV. They used a Stacked CMOS sensor in A7R V, a new AI AF algorithm from the flagship series cameras, and an enhanced video core specification. Unfortunately, none of the competitors, including Canon and Nikon, use a 61MP stacked or non-stacked CMOS sensor in their models; hence, in the absence of a true competitor, we may see a modest or subtle update from the camera maker.

Sony A7V Before September 2025

People are eagerly awaiting the Sony A7V camera, with as per the latest Sony A7V rumors, we have it will arrive on or before September 2025. The camera is poised to compete with the Nikon Z6 III, but Sony is strategically holding back the Sony A7V from a full launch. They are reportedly waiting to analyze the final core specifications of the Canon EOS R6 Mark III before officially announcing the Sony A7V release date in 2025.

Finally, the RX Series Compacts

We would love to see, and Sony should continue as the global market share of premium compact cameras is rising, but at the same time,e we have no information related to RX series compacts as of now.

Canon R6 Mark III Specification and more... [Update May 2025]

Canon is now finally preparing to announce the Canon R6 Mark III camera, the next full-frame camera of the Canon EOS R lineup. According to the latest leaked specification that surfaced on the web, the Canon R6 Mark III camera is coming with a brand new 24 MP sensor, and yes, the rest of the specification is almost the same as what we have shared earlier,  Here’s everything we know so far about the EOS R6 Mark III,

Canon R6 Mark III – Leaked specifications

The leaked specification isn’t much different from what we have said with you in the past let’s have a look at the specs

  • Sensor: Brand new 24MP stacked CMOS sensor
  • Readout Speed: Faster than the EOS R5 Mark II but slower than the EOS R1
  • Processor: Dual DIGIC X and DIGIC Accelerator for enhanced performance
  • Rear LCD: New “flippy” mechanism, likely a tilt-and-flip design similar to Sony and Panasonic models
  • Video Capabilities:
    • 6K RAW recording at 60 fps
    • 4K recording at 120 fps
    • Support for C-Log 2 and C-Log 3 for advanced color grading

These specs position the EOS R6 Mark III as a powerhouse for hybrid shooters

What’s new in the Canon R6 Mark III?

The Canon R6 Mark III camera is coming with a brand new 24 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor. So it may be or maybe not the same sensor that we have seen in the Canon R3 camera,

Though we have reported several sets of rumoured specs of the upcoming Canon R6 Mark III camera, one of the thing is almost confirmed that we will have the 24 MP resolution sensor in this camera, no resolution jump till now is expected in the R6 series

The core specification also confirms that the new design of LCD screen is coming, which we reported back on December 18, 2024

Arrival date of Canon R6 Mark III camera

The exact announcement timeline, if try to get a timeline, then industry insiders indicate
it’s between July to September of 2025.

Price of the Canon R6 Mark III camera

Canon EOS R6 Mark II has seen a significant amount of price drop, authorised retailers recently offering it for as low as $1,999 and refurbished units going even deeper and deeper..

The camera’s MSRP is now $2,199, reflecting a permanent $200 price drop.
The Canon R6 Mark II’s current price point indicates that Canon will aim to keep the new model competitive, likely in the $2,499–$2,799 range
Stay tuned, we will post more updates soon

Updated at 3:56 pm, Tuesday, 6 May 2025, Greenwich Mean Time (GMT): According to the latest rumors, Sony will announce the Sony FX3a on May 7, 2025. The camera will only have a Minor improvement related to its Display. Since the display used by the FX3 is no longer in production, everything will remain the same.

The first camera is an updated version of the FX3 camera which will carry a minor upgrade like: Expected announcement date May 07, 2025

  • New LCD Screen: Enhanced for better visibility and touch controls.
  • Modern Charging Port: Probably USB-C for faster, easier charging.
